How To Consider Safety Issues When Customizing Outward-opening Windows

We have been concerned about their performance for outward-opening windows, such as sealing, sound insulation, energy saving, etc.; we have also worried about its potential hidden dangers, such as the possibility of outward-opening windows falling off due to swaying in strong winds.

There are many things worth noting about the safety customization of outward-opening windows. For the size of outward-opening windows, considering the floor safety factors, the sash width of outward-opening windows should be ≤650mm and the sash height should be ≤1200mm; for outward-opening window hinges, the size and weight of outward-opening windows using hinge products should not be too large, otherwise it will easily affect the regular opening and closing of windows or reduce the sealing and insulation performance of windows; for outward-opening window anti-fall ropes, the fixed base on the window frame should be higher than the (fixed seat) on the window sash, and the distance should not be too long or too short; for outward-opening window center braces, windows over 1.8m should use reinforced middle stiles and the middle stile T connection method should be connected with connectors...Reducing safety hazards on doors and windows, the safety details of high-quality doors and windows are roughly reflected here.

In addition, the usage habits and scenarios of casement windows are also closely related to our choices. For both safety and good looks, learning about these customized "heights" of outward-opening windows is recommended.

1. Floor height

To prevent falls and wind, it is not recommended to use outward-opening windows on high floors or in residential buildings above seven floors.

From the perspective of safety, inward-opening windows, inward-tilting windows, and sliding windows are more suitable for high-rise buildings. When using sliding windows, the window sashes must have anti-falling measures.

2. Window sill height

In general, residential buildings require a window sill height of at least 0.9m; when it is less than 0.8m, protective measures should be taken. In public buildings, the window sill height is approximately between 1.0 and 1.8m; the bottom height of the window sashes opening to the public walkway should be at least 2.0m.

3. Handle height

The handle height design of windows (especially outward-opening windows) varies from person to person. The handle height should be set to an appropriate position according to the owner, who often opens and closes the window. In addition, we also need to consider whether obstacles, such as window sills at the window installation location, hinder the opening and closing of the window.

When the window sill height is constant, the higher the window sash, the higher the position of the opening handle. Therefore, if the window sash and handle are too high, the operation will be more inconvenient. For an ordinary person with a height of 1.6 to 1.7 meters, the arm stretched out is about 1.4 to 1.5 meters. Considering the height of the ordinary window sill of 0.9 meters, 1.0 to 1.2 meters is the reasonable height of the opening sash (handle).

4. Waistline height

This height is mainly for floor-to-ceiling windows or bay windows. The opening waistline position of floor-to-ceiling windows is about 1-1.1 meters from the ground. If the waistline is too low, it is easy for the window opener to lose the center of gravity when opening and closing the window, which poses a severe safety hazard; if the waistline is too high, it will affect the aesthetics of the entire window. After all, the horizontal bar is higher in the entire window, which is abrupt with our visual perception. It is recommended that you understand these details clearly when purchasing and installing.

Finally, let's talk about the waistline of the bay window. It should not be too high or too low (a too high waistline affects the overall appearance of the bay window, and a too low waistline makes it easy for children to open the window, making adults feel uneasy); the waistline position should be equivalent to the shoulder height when a person is sitting or standing.
